OSS 2016 will take place in the city of Gothenburg, Sweden's second biggest city. Gothenburg is an industrial city with several large companies in the telecom, shipping and automotive sectors. It is a leading city in Scandinavia in terms of culture and entertainment. It is also the home of two major universities: Chalmers University of Technology and University of Gothenburg. The city has a strong free software community with several free software associations, companies and enthusiasts.

Arriving in Gothenburg

By plane

There are buses leaving from Landvetter, Gothenburg’s airport, every 30 minutes. The price for a bus ticket is 105 SEK (~11€) for a one-way ride, and 195 SEK (~20€) for a round trip.

Depending on where you travel from, you might consider landing in Stockholm Arlanda, Sweden or Copenhagen, Denmark. Both cities are a 3-hour train ride away from Gothenburg.

By train

It’s possible to take a train to Gothenburg from a number of cities in Europe, such as Amsterdam and Berlin.

All trains arrive to Gothenburg at Centralstationen, which is centrally located and a major traffic hub for trams and buses.

Getting to the Conference

The conference venue is Lindholmen Conference Center. The venue is situated at its centre is an internationally renowned Science Park in the fields of intelligent transport systems, mobile internet and media. The conference centre’s central location in Gothenburg means that it is only a 6 min bus ride from the central station. Gothenburg City Airport is only 15 min away and Landvetter airport 25 min. There are also car and bicycle pools at your disposal and the Älvsnabben ferry takes you over the river in 4 minutes into the city centre.

From Gothenburg central station (easily reachable from the airport):
  • By bus: 10 mins (bus # 16)
  • By ferry service (there is one free of charge)
  • By taxi: 5-10 mins
  • By combination of tram and bus
